The evidence-based practice is focused on improving the safety and quality of care patients

The evidence-based practice is focused on improving the safety and quality of care patients receive by influencing critical medical decisions that healthcare professionals make (Melnyk et al., 2018). The Quadruple Aim in healthcare is a summary of the goals that the healthcare industry wants to achieve.  The Quadruple Aim has four main goals which are: reducing the cost of healthcare, improving patient experience and outcome, improving the health of the population and work-life balance of healthcare providers. Nursing practitioners and other healthcare professionals often have loads of work in the clinical setting and often suffer from burnout. It affects the quality and safety of care that they offer to the patient. EBP, however, reduces such instances of burnout. The EBP is therefore connected to the Quadruple Aim in the following ways:

Patient Experience
Evidence-based practice (EBP) helps improve the outcome of the patient, which is part of the Quadruple Aim in the healthcare system. The EBP in healthcare reduces illogical care variations by standardizing healthcare practices to science and best evidence (Kim et al., 2016).  Healthcare providers can translate findings of research into their clinical practice through the use of the evidence-based practice. EBP is used to evaluate clinical information and understand how such information could influence medical decisions. It helps care providers to apply existing scientifically proven knowledge in their healthcare practices, therefore improving the quality of care that the patient gets. Healthcare providers are also more confident in the healthcare decisions they make when using EBP as facts and science back them. The use of practice influences patient satisfaction and outcomes. EBP also focuses on research in new fields of medicine which enhances the skills of healthcare providers, making them more capable of providing quality care. The outcome of care and patient experience is based on the knowledge of the healthcare provider, the quality and the safety of care the patient receives.
Healthcare Costs
Research shows that evidence-based practice leads to safe and quality care which is essential in the health care delivery system. However, the costs of care have been going up as quality and safety of care increases. The quadruple aim looks at reducing the costs of care, and EBP is the solution for healthcare organizations. EBP leads to more effective treatments that are based on scientific evidence. Such treatments reduce the repeat of treatments which is costly to healthcare providers and patients. EBP also reduces the workload on the staff hence reduce staff turnover, which could increase costs for healthcare facilities. Evidence-based treatments reduce legal problems for healthcare facilities and also reduce expenditures patients have to make on drugs. Evidence-based practice, therefore, helps reduce the variable costs incurred by patients and healthcare facilities during treatment.
Population Health
Public health policies within a country determine the health of the population. Evidence-based practice enables the development and implementation of such policies and programs through the use of scientific logic. EBP is a way through which healthcare organizations understand healthcare issues that affect the general public and best ways proven by logical reasoning, to deal with the issues.  EBP allows the systematic use of scientific data to improve the health of the population. Individuals and healthcare providers have better access to reliable information that could be used to improve healthcare (Boller, 2017). Such information helps formulate successful prevention programs and policies that improve the health of the public.
Work-life of Healthcare Providers
The health, work-life balance of healthcare providers is essential in providing care services that are of high quality and safety. The evidence-based practice reduces the instances of nurse burnout due to chronic overwork or lack of fulfilment and support in their work. EBP enables research and collection of scientifically proven data that make healthcare providers work easier. It also promotes inter-professional collaboration, reducing the workload on caregivers such as nurses. Through EBP healthcare workers are easily involved in the process of decision making, which increases their job satisfaction (Sikka, Morath & Leape, 2015). The use of logic and scientifically proven data enhances treatment and reduces time spent on repeat treatments. Healthcare providers, therefore, have time to deal with other life pressing matters.
From the above analysis, it is evident that the Quadruple Aim is connected to Evidence-based Practice and that the latter is a way of achieving the former. When the healthcare system adopts evidence-based practice, it will achieve the goals of the Quadruple Aim which is to improve patient experience, improve public health, reduce the cost of healthcare and lastly, improve the work-life of healthcare providers.
