Decision-making is critical in every organization as it influences the direction the organization takes and whether the organization achieves the intended goals and objectives. Radical Decision-Making Model

The radical decision model is when an individual uses the available facts, analysis, and a step-by-step process of making decisions (Valentine et al., 2018). Information about a particular phenomenon is critical when making such decisions. The method is appropriate when an organization wants to come up with fact-based decisions.  The model follows various steps before a decision can be made. The first step is to define the problem.  This is identifying why the business needs to come up with a decision and the issue that is affecting the organization. The second step is to identify the decision criteria. It will involve choosing the variables that will affect the outcome of a decision. An excellent example is when the organization identifies the issue of low customer acquisition. The employees and customer services are some of the variables that will influence the outcome.

Allocating weight to the criteria is the third step and involves deciding on what variable has the most impact on the outcome. In this case, the employees carry the biggest weight as they affect how consumers view the organization, and their efforts are the ones that bring the consumer to the business. The next step in the process is developing alternatives (Uzonwanne, 2016).  This is where potential solutions to the problem are considered. It is a general list of alternatives. The following step is to evaluate the alternatives. The decision-makers view each alternative’s consequences and outcomes and its impact on the issue under discussion.  The last step is choosing the best alternative, which becomes the decision that will be adopted as the solution to the issue.

Biases and Errors in Decision Making

Various ways could be used to avoid bias and errors in the decision making process. The first way of avoiding bias is to know and conquer the biases. Cognitive biases are often causative factors to errors in decision making. Personal judgment is often biased as it relies on individuals’ cognitive ability other than material facts or information. The other way of avoiding bias is to think through decisions that are being made. Errors and bias characterize Rush decisions. Thinking over the decision helps prevent bias. The use of the SPADE framework helps identify any bias in decisions (Loreggia et al., 2018). The setting (S), people (P), alternatives (A), Decide (D), and Explain (E) framework helps define the why, what, when, and how questions are associated with a particular decision.

The other way of avoiding bias is seeking multiple perspectives about an issue. Many opinions help identify when a particular bias is present in a decision. Getting advice and feedback from others helps decision-makers understand areas where they are biased. A reflection on the past decisions could also help identify the likelihood of making a biased decision (Uzonwanne, 2016).

Factors Influencing Decision Making

Individual differences and organizational constraints could influence the process of decision making. Individual differences make the process of decision making difficult and time-consuming. When each individual has a different opinion about a solution, there is a likelihood that reaching a consensus will be a time-consuming activity. Traits, levels of knowledge and values, and beliefs of individuals affect how they make decisions in an organization. Organizational constraints are the factors that could prevent a decision from being made. They affect how a decision is adopted and if it is accepted in the organization at all. Such constraints include financial resources in the organization. Some decision requires resources and unavailability of the resources affects the intended decisions. Management support is another constraint that affects organizational decisions.

Ethical Considerations

Ethical decisions are important in the organization as they help achieve the intended outcomes. When making decisions, one consideration is the impact that the decision will have on others and the community within which the organization operates. Decisions with negative impacts such as pollution should be avoided.  Decision-makers should consider whether there are better alternatives that will have the best results before embarking on decisions. Another ethical consideration is evaluating each decision that is being made within the organization to make sure that they do not lead to negative personal impacts on individuals within the organization (Loreggia et al., 2018).


Radical decision-making is critical to organizations. It uses available facts and information as the basis of decision-making. The model of decision-making follows a process that has several steps. They include defining the problem, identifying the decision criteria, developing the variables that will affect the outcome, deciding on alternatives, evaluating alternatives, and selecting the best alternatives. Individual preferences and organizational constraints, such as management and financial constraints, affect decision-making.
